Electric outboards work best for smaller boats, dinghies, and also for freshwater fishing, where it matters more that you get quiet, zero-emission power than that you have a long range. Most of these models will fit on boats under about 15 to 20 feet, but they usually have shorter run times than gas engines, so they feel a bit more suited for placid water, not really offshore cruising. In other words, they’re the go-to choice when you want that clean drive and less noise.
